RESPECT FOR VOLUNTEERS

The start of a new Ringette season is an exciting and sometimes stressful time of year for athletes, parents and volunteers. During the evaluation and team formation process, volunteer board members put many hours of their time into planning and carrying out the process. The volunteers do their best to make things run smoothly, while ensuring adherence to SARA policies and procedures throughout.
The entire board recognizes the stress that athletes and families feel, however we would like to remind everyone that respectful communication is paramount to our collective success. Rude behavior and disrespectful treatment of other parents, volunteers, board members or athletes is unacceptable and will be dealt with according to SARA Code of Conduct Policy.
If you have questions about the process, respectful communication with your respective Division Coordinator or Evaluations Directors are absolutely encouraged. Suggestions for improvements for future seasons are also welcome, once evaluations are completed and teams are formed. Right now, the entire team of board volunteers is focused on completing a fair process.
Thank you to all members of the association that are supporting the team formation process through planning, supporting, and volunteering. We wish all the athletes a fantastic season!

When the evaluation schedule is finalized the dates, times and locations will be posted to an Evaluations tab and the Calendar. Check back soon!

EVALUATION FAQS

  1. How do I know which evaluation session to go to?

The list of players that are assigned to each of the evaluation sessions will be posted as a news article on the respective division page.

  2. How many evaluation skates are there?

At the beginning of the ringette season, athletes from all divisions (U10-U19) will be given the opportunity to attend a minimum of two or three evaluation ice times, depending on the division.

  3. Why do we need to go to all the evaluations?

It is important that athletes attend all of their designated ice times, as absences from evaluation skates may have a significant impact on their final placement.  Exceptions, such as illness, may be taken into consideration.

  4. Who evaluates the players?

SARA uses independent evaluators such as an NRL team or the University team.

  5. What do I need to know if my daughter wants to try out for an AA team?

Players wishing to try out for an AA team are asked to make the appropriate selection during the registration process. This information will be used to inform the evaluation and team selection process.  There is no separate evaluation process for A teams; there is a separate evaluation process (and fee) for AA evaluations.  Please see the AA information page for more details.

What is the purpose of the evaluations?

  6. The primary goal of the SARA Player Evaluation Policy is to fairly and consistently evaluate athletes for the purpose of placing them on teams with athletes of similar ability.

  7. I see the schedule for evaluations but no player breakdown is listed under the teams/divisions. Where can I access this?

We often have players registering at the last minute so usually we have the information posted approximately one week prior to the skates (but it can be posted earlier).

As our evaluation dates are staggered, the posting of this information will depend on the evaluation start date for your daughters division.

The evaluation components include a conditioning skate, the UAA assessment (U10-U14) and then the scrimmage skates. The players will be divided for the conditioning skate and then assigned to a specific evaluation ice slot following each skate.

Please feel free to contact your division coordinator with any additional questions you may have.
